ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Dental Implants are certainly not new. In fact, your Dentist in Westlake will tell you that Root form Dental Implants have been used for thousands of years with archaeologists uncovering proof that the ancient Chinese would tap carved pegs made out of bamboo into the bone. The ancient Egyptians made Dental Implants out of precious metals and ivory. The mandible from a Mayan woman was uncovered from a dig in Honduras with pieces of shell hammered into the bone that resembled teeth. The bone growth that was discovered around the implants actually formed calculus indicating that the young woman’s implants were both esthetic and functional.

It was in the 1950’s that Swedish surgeon Per-Ingvar Branemark began research on titanium and bone growth. Known as the father of modern Dental Implant technology, Dr. Branemarks discovery was known as osseointegration. Prior to osseointegration, Dental Implants consisted of blade implants and transosteal implants. Of course, the only other tooth replacement option was dentures.

If Dental Implants are something that you have been considering, talk to your Dentist in Westlake. Dr. David Hakimi or Dr. Armon Eben will be able to determine if you are a good candidate for Dental Implants. Modern Dental Implants are actually synthetic structures placed into the jawbone using metal framework to attach artificial teeth, permanent bridges, or dentures.
