KEEP YOUR FAMILY SAFE WITH CUSTOM MADE MOUTHGUARDS

Now that the weather has started to warm up, it’s time to start thinking about recreational and sporting activities for you and your kids, and if you are shopping for the necessary equipment, including pads and helmets, do not forget to schedule an appointment for custom fitted mouthguards from your Westlake Dentist.

Talk to Westlake Smile Design about being fitted for mouth protectors whether you are signing up for men’s league softball or getting your kids ready for soccer or Little League this spring.

According to the American Dental Association, 60 percent of mouth injuries could have been avoided had mouthguards been in place. Mouth protectors are not only used in contact sports such as wrestling, boxing, and football, but are also recommended for surfing, inline skating, gymnastics, racquetball, or volleyball. Mouthguards should also be used if you are your family like to mountain bike or play field hockey.

There are three types of mouthguards that can be used to protect your mouth, teeth, and gums. These include stock mouth protectors, boil and bite mouthguards and custom fitted mouthguards.

Stock mouth protectors are fairly inexpensive and can be purchased at most sporting good stores, unfortunately those who have worn stock mouthguards complain that they are uncomfortable making talking and even breathing difficult.

Boil and bite mouthguards are a step up when it comes to protecting your gums, teeth and mouth as they are dipped in warm water before placing in the mouth to conform to the shape of your mouth.

Custom made mouth protectors are your best bet when it comes to mouthguards as they are specially designed to fit your mouth. Your Westlake Dentist will make a mold of your teeth before sending it to a dental lab to be custom made.

Once your custom-made mouth protector is ready, your Dentist in Westlake will make sure that it fits properly. Most mouthguards are made to fit the upper teeth, but if you wear braces, a bottom mouth protector may also be recommended.

Keep you and your family safe this spring and summer and schedule an appointment with Westlake Smile Design for custom-made mouthguards.
